Mini-Experience: Tops & Pops!

This is a chance for you to get a feeling for Kudoz. We'll check-in using the Kudoz app, and then we'll make a batch of movie-style popcorn and i'll share my collection of spinning tops (some of my favourite toys)!

We'll listen for pops while watching the tops!

We can do some experiments:

Which tops spin the longest? The fastest?

Do any of them keep spinning until the popcorn is ready?

To explore this experience together, we can...: Engage your senses! See: colours, shapes, movement… Hear: popping, buzzing…(what else?) Smell: butter-flavoured popcorn salt… Taste: delicious popcorn! Touch: spinning, catching; materials / textures. Tops: plastics, wood (anything else?); corn: kernels, popped, cold, warm…
How many Kudoers could come at once?: 1 person at one time
This experience is:
Wheel chair accessible
Can be done with hearing impaired
Can be done with blind or visually impaired
This happens: at the Host's work place
Nearest skytrain station: Burnaby - Holdom
Skytrain meetup: Maybe: check with me
Should I bring money: No
Afterwards, you could go to: To a movie theatre? Or a toy store?
Reflection Questions
Reflect: People often associate popcorn with movie theatres. Do you have any specific memories of eating — or smelling — popcorn? Have you made it yourself? How? (In a microwave, a kettle, or an air popper? On the stove, or a campfire…?) What’s your favourite kind? (Buttery? Sweet with caramel? Salty with nuts? Spicy…?) Tops are very “old-fashioned” toys — they have existed for thousands of years! Do you have memories of playing with tops as a child? (Have you ever played with a dreidel?) Do tops remind you of anything else? Do you ever get motion sickness? What are some other things that spin? (Wheels, dancers, planets!!)
